An older gentleman wearing a baseball cap throws a log on the fire which causes the sparks to fly.  The older gentleman is John Franz, an artist who lives, paints, and fishes in Grand Marais, MN. This piece was painted en plein air, however, a photograph was used for painting the figure (not a posed piece).
